Chelsea want to sign Haaland in 2021 – More expensive than Havertz without clauseerling haaland chelsea

Timo Werner and Kai Havertz in 2020 and Erling Haaland in 2021? As reported by The Athletic, Chelsea are very interested in signing the BVB striker next summer and will make a “big push” to make it happen. The Londoners are said to be determined to complete a deal at the end of the season rather than witing until 2022 like many other interested parties – then the exit clause in Haaland’s contract, which runs until 2024, will reportedly come into effect.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Chelsea expect there to be less competition for the coveted Haaland this summer, with hardly any club able to afford a transfer of this magnitude. The transfer fee would have to be negotiated with Borussia Dortmund, as the Bundesliga’s most valuable player does not have an exit clause in 2021. “There is no such agreement,” BVB boss Hans-Joachim Watzke told Sport Bild in November when asked if a clause could be triggered as early as next summer.

Consequently, Chelsea would not only have to equal their transfer record, as they did when signing Havertz, who arrived from Bayer Leverkusen for €80 million, but even break it this time. To date, the €100 million mark has only been surpassed ten times.

Agent Mino Raiola said of his most valuable client in a Tuttosport interview: “He has the ambitions to win the Champions League. (…) When Haaland leaves, he will not leave for money but because he wants to play at one of the biggest clubs for international titles.” Whether this description necessarily fits Chelsea, who are four points behind 4th place, is currently doubtful. However, the perspective speaks for the Londoners, as the squad is highly talented, the stars are young and the team was rebuild for €247 million last summer.

Chelsea target Haaland: BVB to lose Sancho in the same summer?

Despite the recent dip in form, the Blues’ chances of winning domestic as well as international titles are likely to be higher than BVB’s, who are likely to face two landmark transfer decisions over Haaland and Jadon Sancho in 2021, in addition to their managerial search.
