Brother signs “King Kazu”: World’s oldest professional footballer joins Suzuka PGking kazu

“King Kazu” is far from having enough: as in previous years,Yokohama FC announced the contract extension of the oldest active professional footballer in the world, Kazuyoshi Miura, on January 11. Unlike the previous 16 years, however, the forward, now a proud 54 years old, will not wear the Yokohama shirt.

Miura will be loaned to fourth division sideSuzuka Point Getters for the 2022 season. There he will meet a familiar face: his brother Yasutoshi Miura, two years his senior, has been head coach at Suzuka PG since July 2021. Last year, King Kazu made just four short appearances for Yokohama FC.

Miura went to Brazil in 1982 as a teenager to play football, which is said to have made him the model for the famous “Captain Tsubasa” manga series.
