Barcelonahave finally made a bid forBayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski, as they kick off their pursuit of the Poland international in the summer transfer window. According to English newspaper the Telegraph, the Catalan giants have submitted a bid of €40 million, which works out at an up-front fee of €35m and then a further €5m in add-ons. Lewandowski has made it clear that he intends on leaving the German giants this summer, going as far as to say that he was certain that his “career at Bayern is over”, in a recent interview while on international break. However, Bayern remain adamant that their star striker is not for sale and would only be allowed to leave when his current contract expires next summer.

Following the unveiling of new signing Sadio Mané, who many believe could step into the towering striker’s shoes if he does depart this summer, Bayern’s chief executiveOliver Kahn once again insisted that Lewandowski was not for sale. “The situation hasn’t changed,” said the former Germany international. “Robert has a contract with us for another year and we expect to see him on the first day of pre-season in July.” However, according to the Telegraph, Barca’s offer does now match Bayern’s valuation of Lewandowski, who currently has a market value of €45m. Although, Bayern may hold out for an offer of €40m in total as a one-off payment, rather than relying on add-ons and future fees. According to Transfermarkt information, Bayern may hold out for as much as €50m in one upfront payment for the player.

Lewandowski may leave – but Ronaldo certainly isn’t going to replace him
While the question remains over Lewandowski’s future, one transfer rumour that can almost certainly be put to bed is the bizarre possibility ofManchester United forwardCristiano Ronaldo making the move to Munich to replace the Polish striker. According to Spanish newspaper AS, the Portugal star was a transfer target for Bayern should the club sell their No.9, but such notions have been quickly put to bed by the German media. ndeed, according to Florian Plettenberg at Sky Sports Germany, Ronaldo will certainly not be making the move to Bayern this summer, despite the insistence of the Spanish media. However, whether Bayern will need to sign a new forward this summer to plug a hole left by Lewandowski remains to be seen.
