Manchester Cityhave confirmed the signing ofLeeds United midfielderKalvin Phillipson a six-year deal worth a reported transfer fee of £42 million, which could rise to £45m (€52m) if bonuses are met. While the deal doesn’t quite reach the dizzying heights of Man City’s biggest deals, it does represent Leeds’ largest ever transfer fee for a player, beating the previous record held byRio Ferdinand, when he departed forManchester United in 2002 for €46m.

“I am absolutely delighted to have joined Manchester City,” Phillips said in an interview on the club website. “City have again proved to be the best team in the country with an amazing squad and a manager in Pep Guardiola who is rightly considered to be the finest in the world. To be able to play under Pep and learn from him and his coaching staff as well as be part of such a fantastic squad is a prospect that I am incredibly excited about.”
